Trestle Ladder

Trestle Ladder

Trestle Ladder, 2006
For this piece I used a classic Western symbol of superstition – it brings bad luck to walk under a ladder – and positioned it right inside the entrance to an exhibition, so no one was able to avoid passing under it on his or her way into the show. I wanted to put on display above all the individual responsibility of each human being to apply their own meanings and values to situations, actions and objects, more than I wanted to put on display an actual reality where the action of walking under a ladder really brings bad luck.
